It’s time to break the rules! Spend an afternoon at Creative Paint & Play, a high-energy, 3-hour intuitive painting workshop where the only goal is to play, experiment and make a glorious mess.
We’re throwing out the standard paintbrushes and reaching for the unexpected. You’ll learn how to build rich, vibrant textures using everything from palette knives and scrapers to cardboard, bubble wrap and charcoal. Every tool leaves its own mark, and half the fun is discovering what happens when you try something new.
Guided by our Instructors, you’ll move past the fear of the blank canvas, tune into your creative intuition and explore the tactile world of acrylic paints, mixed media and experimental mark-making. There are no mistakes here, only happy accidents and bold discoveries.
You’ll create two original pieces: a large 16 x 20 canvas and a 12 x 18 watercolor sheet, giving you room to go big, layer freely and see how different surfaces respond to your marks.
By the end of the afternoon, you’ll leave with two art pieces that are completely and uniquely yours, along with a new sense of creative freedom and your own unique visual style.
What you’ll make: Two original art pieces, including: (1) a 16 x 20 acrylic and mixed-media canvas, (2) and a 12 x 18 watercolor sheet, both filled with your own textures, layers and experimental marks.
What you’ll learn:
Trusting your creative intuition and finding your own visual style
Building texture with palette knives, scrapers and found objects
Experimental mark-making with cardboard, bubble wrap and charcoal
Layering acrylic paint and mixed media
Working on different surfaces: canvas and watercolor paper
Skill level: Beginner. No previous experience required. All skill levels welcome!
Age restriction: All ages welcome. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by a paid adult participant.
Who’s this class for: Beginners, experienced artists looking to loosen up, families, teens, adults, homeschool families, and anyone who wants to play, experiment and get messy.
Food & drink policy: Non-alcoholic drinks are welcome as long as they are in a container with a lid. No food.
What to bring/ wear: All materials are provided, including a 16 x 20 canvas and a 12 x 18 watercolor sheet. This class gets messy, so wear clothes and shoes you don’t mind getting paint on. Come dressed comfortably and ready to create!
Class size: This class is limited to 15 students max.
