Intro to Pottery Hand Building [4 Weeks] Thu, 6-8 PM

$160.00

Thursdays, October 29 – December 3, 2026 | 6:00–8:00 PM (4 weeks, 2 hours each)
Instructor: Kayla Rich

Get your hands in the clay and discover the timeless art of hand building! In this 4-week Hand Building Pottery series, you'll learn to shape, build and finish functional pieces without a wheel, using only your hands and a few simple tools.

Each week builds on the last. You'll start with the basics of working with clay and making a classic pinch pot, then move on to coil building, where you'll stack and blend coils of clay into a vessel with your own shape and style.

Next, you'll roll out slabs of clay to build pieces like a mug, dish or planter, and learn how to add texture, handles and decorative details that make each piece your own.

In the final week, you'll glaze your bisque-fired pieces and choose colors and finishes that bring your work to life. Our staff will handle all the kiln firing, so you can focus on creating.

By the end of the series, you'll have a collection of handmade pottery pieces and the skills and confidence to keep creating, whether that's at home or in our open studio membership.

NOTE: due to kiln shipping delays, we might not be able to fire all of your pieces in time for glazing. If this happens, you’ll be invited back for a free glazing session and you’ll use your fourth class to continue to make more pieces.

What you'll make: A collection of handmade, functional pottery pieces, including: (1) a pinch pot, (2) a coil-built vessel, (3) a slab-built piece such as a mug, dish or planter, (4) and glazed (painted), kiln-fired finished work to take home.

What you'll learn:

  • Clay basics: wedging, preparing and handling clay

  • Pinch pot techniques

  • Coil building and blending

  • Slab rolling and construction

  • Attaching handles, adding texture and decorating surfaces

  • Glazing techniques and how the firing process works

Who's this class for: Beginners, adults, teens, friends looking for a weekly creative night out, and anyone who wants to try pottery without the wheel.
